Decorating with old books
Years ago, before I opened Sunnyside Cottage, I used to hunt for used books at garage sales and thrift stores. When I would find some good titles I could pick up for pocket change I would buy them and list them on Amazon and make a tidy profit. I did really well for a novice and enjoyed bringing in some extra income in this way. Some time after opening my store I was on the hunt again- this time for books that I could use in decorating my home. I always look for vibrantly colored hardbacks underneath the worn jacket covers that will compliment my style. I also look for books with titles that speak to me about my life or my personality or something from my past. Here are a few of my favorite titles that I have found: Second Hand Rose, The Perfect Hostess, The Kids are Alright, Bless this Home, Joy Street, and A Penny for Your Thoughts. Though I have stacks of books around the house waiting to be read, I never read the books I decorate with but rather enjoy them for the warm and pleasing way they add style to my home. Try it sometime. You'll have fun creating little vignettes throughout your home with interesting and inexpensive books!
